Dental Radiography Course Overview

The BDA Dental Radiography course is a nationally recognised qualification designed to equip dental nurses with the knowledge and skills to use X-rays safely and produce high-quality radiographs.

Upon successful completion, learners will be awarded the BDA Certificate in Dental Radiography. This qualification is approved by the General Dental Council (GDC), the British Society of Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology, and the Society and College of Radiographers, enabling dental nurses to safely carry out common radiographs in practice.

The course begins with a structured online programme consisting of 25 modules and 5 quizzes, completed over approximately 8 weeks. Following this, learners will undertake a supervised Practical Portfolio, which includes the completion of 40 radiographs. You will have around 5 months to complete this practical element.

Once your portfolio has met the required standard, you will progress to a one-hour online multiple-choice examination.
The full course typically takes between 6 and 9 months to complete, depending on your start date. With multiple intakes throughout the year, you can begin your studies at a time that suits you.
